May 2008

Sat 10 – Volunteer Breakfast at the Palmer House. Find out about the range of volunteer opportunities at the Stonington Historical Society and get a behind-the-scenes tour of the facilities. Contininental Breakfast provided. Call 860-535-8445 to register.

Sat 17 – Judy Dupont will sign copies of her book "Murder at Darling Hill" from 4 - 6pm at La Grua's Book Store,
121 Water Street, Stonington Borough.

Wed 28 – The One Hundred Thirteenth Annual Meeting of the Stonington Historical Society will be held at 4pm on the Society's Grounds, 40 Palmer Street. All members are invited to attend. After the meeting, Tertius deKay and Joel Kunathwill present a program on : " The 1814 Battle of Stonington and the Miner Coat."   - the coat worn by 19-year old John Miner when he was wounded as part of the battery defending Stonington from a British landing party. Admission: free to members, $5 non-members; reception to follow.

Wed 28 - July 16 – Happy Birthday, Woolwowrth Library!   Exihit in honor of the library's tenth anniversay, with displays on the building's inception and construction as well as past homes of the historical society's archives.

June 2008

Sat 28 – Summer Soiree Dinner Dance
to benefit the Gardens & Grounds, at the Palmer House & Woolworth Library grounds. 6pm - midnight catered by A Thyme to Cook, music by "Souled Out". For reservations call 860-535-8445.

July 2008

Fri 4 – Borough Parade and reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Mon 7 - Fri 11 – History Camp for students in grades 4 - 6 in partnership with the Stonington Community Center.

Fri 25 – Steve Jones and Bob McKenna talk about Run Running in Stonington. More details to follow.

Wed 30 - September 17 – Our Glorious Tenth:   Special Exhibit at the Woolworth Library on two centuries of celebrations of the Battle of Stonington.

August 2008

Sat 2 – Stonington Village Fair. Look for the Stonington Historical Society Booth where you can purchase books about Stonington.

Mon 4 - Fri 8 – History Camp for students in grades 4 - 6 in partnership with the Stonington Community Center.

Sun 10 – Battle Of Stonington Celebration: Anniversary Picnic for Friends & Family at the Old Lighthouse Museum. Celebrating 194th anniversary, with speeches, music, games, tours, food, drink and more. All inclusive: $10 adults, $5 children, 4 - 6pm.


The Old Lighthouse Museum and the Capt. N.B. Palmer House are open by appointment November - April.
